Student Sample 2

 

This student sample shows how students are to complete assignments that focus on the student development of multiple Common Core Math Practices (MPs). This is also a method to study math concepts appropriately.

 

MP1: "Make Sense of the Problem and Persevere in Solving Them" is addressed through the Asking Yourself Questions on the left of the vertical line with the appropriate logical responses on the right of the vertical line much like the Cornell Notes format, with the essential question at the beginning and closure of the assignment through summarization at the end.

 

MP3: "Construct a Viable Argument and Critique the Reasoning of Others" is also addressed through the Asking Yourself Questions and the citing of evidence for their statements. The citation is by labeling the sections where they found that information in the notes. More justification is shown in the steps where each statement is provided with a reason using a t-chart structure.

 

MP5: "Use Appropriate Tools Strategically" is addressed by having the students compare their work with their notes and providing proof through the citations.

 

MP6: "Attend to Precision" is addressed through the process of the "Ask Yourself Questions" where students are to verify if their answers are correct and also through the comparison of the notes with their statements.
