Winter Break HW
To complete your Winter Vacation HW, you are to look at ten different websites that are only from the “Homework/Study Resources” section of our Thinking Class website, https://mr-borden-s-thinking-class.webnode.com/resources/homework-study-resources/.
From the ten different websites, you are to do research by taking Cornell Notes on the concept of “linear equations,” also known as “equations for lines.”
The Essential Question: How can I use linear equations to solve problems?
Standards:
- 8EE6: I can write and interpret an equation for a line in slope-intercept form and determine the relationship is linear using similar triangles to show the slope is the same between any two points.
- 8F4: I can write, graph, and interpret linear functions. This means: I can construct a function to model a linear relationship from a table of values, two points, or verbal description. I can determine the rate of change (slope) and initial value (y-intercept) from a table and graph. I can explain the meaning of the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models.
You must collect three facts (different information) from each website and cite each source. This means that you should have a minimum of 30 different facts in your notes from the different websites. To cite the source, simply write in the website’s name in parentheses immediately after the fact is given.
Example: “To graph a linear equation, we can use the slope and y-intercept” (Math.com).
Whether the information is in text form or video, cite the information the same way.
At the end of the Cornell Notes, list your references (the 10 websites’ names with their addresses) before writing your summary.
Expectations of Cornell Notes are always the same, as noted originally at the beginning of your journal to which you were to write down; but this assignment must be completed on separate sheets of paper, not in the journal to get credit.
Winter Break HW for Algebra 1:
To complete your Winter Vacation HW for Algebra 1, you are to do the error analysis for each problem in both handouts: 1. unit2solving-equations-error-analysis.pdf, and 2. solving-equations-and-inequalities-error-analysis.pdf.
Follow the instructions provided in each document and always show work with statement and reason. Also, list facts (what you know cited from notes) about the concepts before you show work.
You will have a test on solving equations and inequalities when we return. Use your notes and review videos on concepts you are not clear on. Most students have made mistakes in the following:
- Combining like terms
- Properly balancing the equation/inequality on both sides with inverse operations
- Properly using positive and negative signs
- Distributive property
- Properly isolating the variable on one side of the equation/inequality
